Reflection
what did you learn?
I learned a lot this semester, it honestly made me realize why I started doing art and how it can be about exploring and not perfection. I even learned a lot from my classmates. That anything can become art and turn into art. I also realized that much of life has inspired my work intentional where I grow and how I grow can be seen in my art without even realizing it.
what quick challenges did you favor and why?
I favored the tape project just because it was the most enjoyable process, being outside and using my environment to turn it into art, which I have never done before. So it was fun to explore that, another. challenge that involved being outside was the landscape challenge and being on the beach creating the art was refreshing compared to creating art in a classroom.
what ideas and materials do you want to keep exploring?
I want to keep exploring work with my environment and using the landscape to create a piece. I enjoyed using many materials to create pieces such as cardboard and wire. I do want to try materials and ideas I have seen my classmates do because they have personal inspired me.

Personal I enjoy creating structures and 3d art pieces, this piece displays because looking at all the details on it is a tedious art piece to create. As I enjoy doing this I want to always keep building and building wanting to add more. I have recently just started working with color and this piece wasn't meant to have much color but the more I wonder on it the more color I kept adding intentional and in some ways it reminds me of the shows I watch and how colorful they can be and typical are about fantasy which is where I got the title of this piece from. The face I chose for the sun also plays with how I am throughly inspired by graffiti also being from New York City being around graffiti my life which is something that appears in my work constantly. Looking back on the semester and coming up with a concept for this piece and came up with creating a landscape due to how many of my works show flowers and trees with interesting faces. I have grown up around flowers and plants ever since I can remember especially since my father work at the botanical garden and seeing all the shows and sections of flowers. This piece reminds me of how they would wrap the trees and create art with the surround environment which was not what I was originally going for but after it was pointed out I realized much of my work is inspired from the botanical gardens.

Transformation 5

Clay Story

Size 3x100

Acrylic paint, oil pastels, paper, wood glue

For the final piece I started by cutting up the last transformation once again, instead of cutting tiny squares I cut the piece into long strips. Once it was all cut up I painted each strip with black acrylic paint. I then decided what I wanted to paint on the strips, I wanted t create a comic book like feel without the story. I picked images that I thought had the same energy and traced them into sections, after that I outlined each section with white paint to create the comic book like layout. After it was all laid out I took oil pastels and created the background to have an ombre effect, I picked the colors specific to contrast each other and colors to draw the eye. For the final look a place all the pieces in one big line which can be seen in the video below.

Transformation 4

Spiraled Eyes
Size 18x22
Spray paint, acrylic paint, wood glue, paper, tape
This piece was about taking the last transformation and trying to turn it back into a flat piece of art work. I cut up the sections which created tiny squares that I could layout flat and then glued all the pieces together using wood glue. Once it dried I proceed to paint the whole thing black to create a blank canvas. After that I take blue spray paint and covered most the piece and then I took a purple spray paint and lightly sprayed in. Once that all dried I figured out what I wanted to paint on top, I started painting the face and felt there was too much room and then added all the line work around it.

Transformation 3

 Squeezed Ocean

Size 5x7

paper, acrylic paint, charcoal, wood glue

For this transformation I wanted to take a big step by completely disfiguring the paper. To do that I decided to cut up the piece of paper into tiny strips and turn them into thick rings that I would then go on to paint a solid blue. After I had painted them I made the decision to stick them all stuffed and smash them flat down. It created this pull apart affect due to the spaced in between the layers.

Transformation 2

Chaos in Color

Size 12x36

Acrylic paint, paper, and charcoal

In this transformation I wanted to add color and cover the whole thing in an abstract design. Due to space issues it had to be moved around while drying and was rolled up. The acrylic paint dried ups and acted as glue, sticking the paper together which then created this form. The final was not what I was expecting to create but overall turned out well.
